WHAT WE DO
Mental Health Advocacy Services, Inc. (MHAS) is a private, non-profit organization established in 1977 to provide free legal services to people with mental health disabilities. MHAS assists both children and adults, with an emphasis on obtaining government benefits and services, housing discrimination, homelessness prevention, consumer finance, and expungement, and other areas.
MHAS also serves as a resource to the community by providing training and technical assistance to attorneys, mental health professionals, consumer and family member groups, and other advocates.
In addition, MHAS participates in impact litigation in an effort to improve the lives of people with mental disabilities.
HELPING GREGG REMAIN HOUSED
A few months ago, Gregg lost all of his documents and belongings after his building caught on fire. Soon after, Gregg's landlord refused to continue accepting Gregg's housing subsidy and then illegally increased his rent. Gregg then called MHAS for free legal assistance.
